Philosopher Shri/Mr. Vethathiri Maharishi was born in the year 1911 in an indigent weaver’s family at Guduvancheri, a small village near Chennai (Madras), Tamilnadu, Southern part of India.

From his childhood days his quench of thirst for knowledge leads to find answers for following 3 important questions: “Who is God?” “What is life?” “Why does poverty exist in the world?”. He grew up into a self-educated man and a profound thinker.

He became a qualified physician in the systems of indigenous Medicines Viz., Ayurveda, Siddha and Homeopathy. Through research and cogitation, he was able to obtain unequivocal answers to the questions by the time he was thirty-five.

Through sustained research in the philosophies of ancient south indian (Tamil) Siddha saints, such as Thirumoolar, Thiruvalluvar, Thayumanavar and Ramalingar, and meditation on the Self, he formulated a complete science of living for the betterment of mankind and has given all his research in very simple manner that even a layman can understand. Hence, he was also called as layman’s Philosopher.

He came to the firm conviction that training of the mind, introspection and reformation of the habits are necessary for achieving success, peace, happiness, and wisdom.

Vethathiri Maharishi founded The World Community Service Centre (WCSC) in 1958 to bring peace in society through peace in the individual.

Society is made up of individual human beings. Hence, peace must emanate from individuals, then permeate the family, and then to the society at large. Ultimately world peace will blossom.

Vethathiri Maharishi has visited foreign countries on many occasions and has taught extensively in U.S.A., Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, Democratic Republic of Korea and Japan. He also had spoken at the United Nations in the year of 1974 about the importance of Spiritual education for the development of mankind and world peace. More than millions of people around the world have benefited by practicing his philosophy and technique of the SKY system.

He has lived and taught his Philosophy for almost 55 years in simple, rational language, using modern terms so that it could be understood by the majority. Ultimately, through dedication of mind, anyone could experience the subjective phenomena life- force, mind and Truth. Through his own realization of Truth, he synthesized and expounded the philosophies of Universal magnetism, bio-magnetism, evolution of universe, evolution of living beings and Unified force theory (Vethathiri Model of Universe).
